Here's an already nostalgic document regarding a venerable show for veteran Tucson Show goers and junkies. During the 1996 Tucson Show the show at the 3-story Desert Inn Motel, a historic and popular show location, was unexpectedly terminated by Tucson City officials when they condemned the Desert Inn due to safety violations. Resident dealers were given 36 hours to vacate their rooms before the city pulled the plug. The Desert Inn was subsequently demolished and reduced to a vacant lot, which has been host during more recent Tucson Shows to a tent city occupied by rug and African ornament merchants.
Another favorite show of mine didn't survive the turn of the millinneum - The La Quinta Inn, another popular location familiar to Tucson Show vets, isn't hosting a 2000 show. Many of the former La Quinta dealers have migrated to Marty Zinn's Arizona Mineral and Fossil Show, which has been expanding at the InnSuites Motel in downtown Tucson.
